Masterclasses

Production of TV Series
The masterclass addresses the development, production, and distribution of animated TV series. The presenter, Géza M. Tóth, has headed KEDD — one of Central Europe's best-known and most successful animation studios — for nearly twenty-five years; the studio has developed, produced, and distributed hundreds of episodes of animated TV series worldwide (keddstudio.com). In the masterclass, he illustrates key topics such as targeting, the importance of selecting the right format, and financing options, drawing on examples from his own work. The masterclass also covers the speaker's distribution experience gained from distributing their own animated film series across cinema, TV, AVOD, and SVOD platforms.

Writing for Animation and Live Action Films
On writing a script for an animated movie and doing it for a live action movie, a screenwriter can leave decisions that correspond to the director or the art department unfinished. But is that responsible when you should create a whole new world? As a screenwriter of two multi-award-winning adaptations, "Psychonauts: The Forgotten Children", an animated film based on a graphic novel, and "The Platform", a live action film based on a play, Pedro Rivero will talk about his bigger challenges.

Practical Tools for Screenwriting
Masterclass by Pedro Rivero, producer, director, and screenwriter of animated films and winner of two Goya Awards. Is a good characterization enough? And a good dramatic progression? No one says that conflict is everything? And what of the show? Are dramatic irony and anticipations always desirable? Do we want the viewer to participate or only to follow the action? When we write a script, like for a cocktail, we have to start by knowing what each ingredient contributes and our palate will immediately recognize how we have combined them. Maybe the paradigm can explain it in ten minutes, but we must investigate the dramatic terminology, the examples, the clamorous failures and those that were not so to discover what knowledge they provide us and what limit us to find what we want to offer to the audience.
